We believe that sooner or later, any Jira admin would need to have a scripting solution in their Jira stack. These solutions are too powerful to overlook. But many do just because scripting can seem intimidating.

And that’s the problem we’re solving with this UI overhaul!

We want to make Power Scripts easier to learn for novice programmers but also simple to use for experienced ones. This pushes us to constantly deliver more and more improvements. We also value all the feedback you send us. This feedback helps us fine-tune Power Scripts in ways that will make the most impact for you and your business.

So with all that in mind, we kicked off an audit for our UI and we’ve identified areas where the app needed tweaking.

Scroll on to learn why this update will make your experience with Power Scripts smoother — then be sure to head over to your Jira to install the new update and experience the new UI yourself.

Navigate Faster Through Configuration Pages

The first thing you’ll notice when you install the new Power Scripts version is the compact Admin pages menu.

Before, this menu was too long. Navigating to the right configuration page was confusing. To solve that, we made the menu smaller while displaying only the most used admin pages.

The rest of the configuration pages are now grouped under ‘Power Apps Configuration’. Clicking on that, you’ll be presented with a top navigation menu to access all the configuration pages you’re used to, in addition to new ones that were added in this update. Here’s a product tour of the new Power Apps Configuration Menu

New Actionable Metrics. More Visibility.

When problems occur in your instance, it’s important to perform an accurate and timely diagnosis. This significantly increases the probability of success in resolving the problem.

In this update, we’ve grouped all the tools you need to track the health of your Jira in one configuration panel. This gives you easy and faster access to multiple tools to manage all of your scripts at the same time. Here are the new runtime configurations that we’re excited to share:

Instant reporting on the status of your databases with “SQL Monitoring”

As soon as you have multiple databases connected to your Jira, you’ll find yourself losing valuable time looking in the wrong places for the root cause of your SQL server slowdowns.

With this newly available SQL monitoring tool, we provide you with actionable, detailed metrics to quickly and visually identify and resolve your database problems. Read more here.

Unparalleled visibility into the state of your scripts with “Script Performance”

The burden falls most heavily on admins when they have to keep track of all scripts regularly. With the new “Script Performance” tab, you can see how your scripts are impacting your instance in one place.

A new level of insight into problems and what’s causing them with “SIL Diagnostic”

Oftentimes, users appreciate getting tailored advice on how to fix problems they’re facing with their scripts. With SIL Diagnostic, we are now able to provide top-notch support, more than anytime before.

The SIL Diagnostic functionality enables you to create a zip file that includes all your Jira logs and SIL programs. This eliminates the back and forth between you and our Support team. And we can now diagnose issues and resolve them more quickly. It’s a win-win for everyone.

“Grab-and-go” Script Templates for Faster Jira Automation

We’re now making it even easier to get started with Power Scripts. Perhaps you’re an admin who used to rely on other developers on your team to automate workflows and perform integrations for you. But, now, you want to be able to perform some of that magic on your own. With script templates, we’ll guide you towards your first true taste of success in transforming Jira with custom scripts.

From validators to conditions, post-functions to listeners, our ready-to-go templates give you everything you need to get set up quickly, no matter where in Jira. Easy, peasy.  Learn more here

Get the Support You Need at Every Turn

Say you’re writing a new script and you wonder for a second: what was the name of the variable again? Why am I receiving this error message? Is this the right syntax? Ideally, you would open up the documentation to search for answers. But, going back and forth between the app and the documentation is not good for your coding flow.

To minimize interruptions to your coding and provide you with all the information you need at your fingertips, we’re introducing in-app documentation inside Power Scripts and SIL Manager.

In-App Documentation in Power Scripts

You can now make use of in-app documentation to find all the definitions and information you need without leaving your admin pages. Goodbye to the times when you had to open tens of different documentation pages just to get lost in them. The small question mark button next to every function is there for you.

Swift Access for Persistent Variables and Aliases from the SIL Manager Interface

Persistent variables are the safest way to store important data pertaining to your Jira instance, such as usernames and passwords. In older versions, the only way you could edit a persistent variable is in the script itself. And if you wanted to delete a persistent variable entirely, you had to do it in the database.

Now, persistent variables are easily accessible and permanently available as a separate tab to the right of the SIL Manager. Follow this product tour to see how it now got much easier to set up and manage persistent variables.

Likewise, in previous versions of the SIL Manager, to update aliases or read them, you had to close the script you’re working on, open the SIL alias file, then come back to the script file again. That’s not the user experience we strive for!

In this update, we’ve smoothed out this entire process to a great length. SIL aliases now have a dedicated tab on the right of the SIL Manager for faster access.

And that’s a wrap! We hope you find these updates helpful. We’ll continue to make Power Scripts more powerful and better for you – and your business – every day. In the meantime, if you have any questions, we’re always happy to help. And don’t forget to check out our release notes for more updates and improvements.
